The University of Alabama Student Center offers a variety of student job opportunities that let you gain real-world experience while being an active part of the campus community. Whether you’re helping with events, working behind the scenes, or providing customer service, these jobs give you the chance to build your skills and connect with other students. Building Manager

  • Provides overall assistance to the Student Center and its customers while ensuring excellent service.
  • Manages paperwork and office duties essential to department functions.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations and events on Ferguson grounds.
  • Has a thorough understanding of Student Center programs/events and services.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the building.
  • Supervises other student staff positions

Student Support Staff

Information Desk Assistant

  • Provides directions and information about campus events, services, and facilities.
  • Manages lost and found items, ensuring proper documentation and storage.
  • Maintains knowledge of current and upcoming events at the Student Center and across campus.
  • Assists with special projects and tasks as assigned by the building manager.
  • Upholds high standards of customer service, ensuring a welcoming environment for all guests.

Event Assistant

  • Set up event spaces according to layouts and instructions, including placement of tables, chairs, staging, pipe and drape, and A/V equipment
  • Operate and assist with basic event technology including speakers, microphones, mixers, Crestron/Extron systems, and portable A/V setups.
  • Provide on-site support during events, including client assistance, room adjustments, and last-minute setup needs.
  • Maintain radio communication with Building Managers, housekeeping, and Student Center staff at all times during shifts.
  • Represent the Student Union with professionalism, integrity, and a customer-service mindset.
  • Assist at the Information Desk when coverage is needed, offering general building guidance and support.
  • Monitor inventory levels of event supplies and notify supervisors when restocking is needed

Reservation Specialist

  • Provides reception and assistance in the Reservations Office, handling phone calls and emails.
  • Processes reservation requests using an online event management system.
  • Assists students and campus partners with planning meetings and events.
  • Utilizes event planning software to create unique event space diagrams.
  • Maintains strong customer service standards.
  • Assists with special events as needed.

Social Media Coordinator

  • Understand and navigate Canva software to use UA Student Center Brand Kits
  • Maintain the Social Media posts, questions, stories and tags associated with the Student Center
  • Promote upcoming events/ programs
  • Collaborate with organizations inside the student center (UP, SGA, SOURCE, Career Center etc) to promote their programs
  • Highlight building updates and information
  • Promote changes in business hours and gameday policies
  • Promote staff interaction and encouragement

Facilities Assistant

  • Enter work order requests via UA AIM system
  • Assisting UA Facilities Maintenance employees with assigned work orders  (electrical, HVAC, Building Maintenance, Logistics, Security and Access Control)
  • Assisting with Logistical requests including Surplus and Recycling
  • Receiving work order issues via phone, email and/or radio from housekeeping, building tenants, Adm and UA Facilities.
  • Assisting with event set ups, assisting Facilities shops with event questions (ex. Where power needs to be for specific event)
  • Assisting with in-house construction projects (planning, meeting with architects, project managers, etc.)
  • Assisting your fellow student team members with event and building related set ups and break downs as needed
  • Collecting information for Access Control/Security as needed
  • Working closely with the Student Center Reservations department with event set up needs, i.e. power, logistics, HVAC, etc.
